Canada Thistle Bud Weevil (Larinus carlinae)

Despite its name, this weevil is a native of Europe. It was introduced into North America in the 1960s and is now being used as a biocontrol agent for the invasive Canada Thistle. Unfortunately it also feeds on native thistles and is having an adverse affect.
